On November 6th, the Wood End School in Reading, MA celebrated Veteran's Day with an assembly showcasing student reflections on the subject of what the flag meant to them. A member of the Northside family, Shawn Thomson, was chosen to read his essay aloud to the school. Shawn is the son of Brian and Stacie Thomson and a 5th grader at Wood End. Not only was his essay extremely inspiring but he also did an excellent job sharing it with everyone at the assembly. Congratulations Shawn!!
Shawn's Essay - The American Flag
The American flag is amazing. It means a lot of things. There are 50 stars representing the fifty states of America. There are 13 stripes representing the thirteen colonies. The color white on the flag stands for purity. The blue stands for justice and the red stands for faith. The flag means pride and joy. It is a symbol of freedom.
