TRACK STAR HURDLES BARRELS FOR THE SUMMER
You may have noticed this track star hurdling barrels this summer in Newburyport. It is none other than Richie Roy, one of our new summer help crew members. Richie has just graduated from Newburyport High School and will be attending college at American University in Washington D.C. Richie had quite a successful athletic career at Newburyport in soccer and track. In the addition, he had the honor of being the captain of this year’s soccer team and received post season honors for track by being selected to the All Cape Ann Team.
Northside Carting has taken great interest over the years in hiring young men during the summer, many of them in transition between high school and college or just between semesters. There is no better summer job that I know of where you can work outside all day, throw 20-25 tons of trash, and gain countless stories that come free of charge. As a young person, it certainly makes you want to study just a little harder when you get back to school, but more importantly, you have discovered a new found respect for those employees who do this work every day, 52 weeks of the year. It is not for everyone.
In addition to the above benefits that our summer help crew has, they also earn a good deal of money, which in most cases, helps to defray college expenses. Some have taken advantage of our driver certification program, attained their Class B license, and have been promoted to drivers. One in particular is Mark George and, going for his test tomorrow July 10, is Sean Mahoney.
We would like to thank Richie and the rest of the summer crew as their presence allows the full time men to take vacations with their families, but more importantly, it allows Northside the ability to continue to provide excellent service.
